Dear Newcomers,
Today you will find some information about How much money you need to Survive in Finland.
Cost of Living
In the ranking, Finland can be found as one of the most expensive countries in the world. A student who can keep expenses as low as possible will spend approximately 500-600€ per person per month.. How much you actually spend is of course entirely up to your personal lifestyle.
Living costs
Housing costs will hit an average of 30 % of your monthly income. The cost of houses and apartments are of course particularly dependent on their location. The most affordable residential alternative is sharing an apartment, especially for a single person. A shared apartment can cost between 250-400€, depending on the location. Additional costs are often included in the rent, like to use of water, electricity and Internet.
Food costs
For foods you should schedule around 20-30% of your monthly income. Cooking and eating in your own home is recommended instead of going to a restaurant. However, food at the university is probably the cheapest option; you will spend approximately 1,80-2,60€ for a meal, which includes the main meal, drinks, salad and bread. If you also like to go out to eat once in a while, the menu prices vary with the choice of restaurants. In the Midscale segment, you can find good restaurants with menus from 12€.
Transportation
In Lappeenranta you will find a well-developed transportation network, whereas you wont have trouble to explore the city. The road is also usually the most efficient transportation network in the country. Buses of the company Matkahuolto and express bus are the most used public transport in Finland. For a bus ride in Lappeenranta you pay 2.50-3.20€. A 30 day student travel pass would cost 41€. The rail network is another important pillar of the Finnish transport system. The state-owned VR Group manages this network.
Below you can find the typical expenses incurred by a student:
