There are two admission types for degree programmes at LUT, regular and rolling admission. International students can apply to our programmes through rolling admission; however, there is also an option to apply through regular admission.
This article compares these two application processes and explains the general criteria for each one so that students can assess which application process is best for them. Each degree programme also has additional programme-specific criteria in their application process. Applicants should check the degree programmes’ web page to get a comprehensive list of all the application documents and requirements necessary.
Rolling Admission
The rolling admission application is open for a longer period of time, usually for 6-7 months during the year. There are specific requirements for applying during the rolling admission phase. You will receive an admission decision within a month of providing LUT with all the required documents. You must accept your study place at LUT and pay the tuition fee (if required) within 21 days of receiving your admission decision by e-mail.
Through rolling admissions, you can apply to all English-language Bachelor’s programmes. More details can be found here for Bachelor’s programmes requirements for rolling admissions.
Through rolling admissions, you can apply to all English-language Master’s programmes with the exception of the Master’s programmes in Biorefineries, Circular Economy, Electric Transportation Systems and Water Technology. More details can be found here for Master’s programmes requirements in rolling admissions.
Note: Rolling admission is an application path for those who have completed (or are close to completing) their degree outside of Finland.
Regular Admission
Regular admission is a one-time annual process that is open for 3 weeks in Bachelor’s programmes and nearly 2 months with Master’s programmes. If you are only eligible to apply to a degree programme with regular admission and you miss the deadline, you will have to wait one full year before you can apply to the programme again. Once you have decided on the programme you will apply for, it is best to start preparing the documentation and paperwork as soon as possible.
Once students apply by the deadline in January, student selections will be announced by the end of March in Master’s programmes and by the end of April in Bachelor’s programmes. Students have a deadline to accept the admission offer by the end of April in Master’s programmes and by the middle of July in Bachelor’s programmes (specific dates vary annually). All important dates are communicated to applicants along with the offers of admission and are also updated on the LUT website.
