On both LUT University campuses, in Lahti and Lappeenranta, we have great places where you can enjoy sports as well as other activities. Being a student is much more than just studying, and we want our students to enjoy their student experience in all its forms. It is important to find a balance between studying and leisure, as they both strongly support each other and have a remarkable effect on your wellbeing. In this blog, we will introduce what kinds of fun sports activities you can engage in on our campuses – with your friends or by yourself!
Indoor sports
LUT’s Lappeenranta campus has three sports halls. There is one smaller one with a mirror wall, where you can practice, for example, martial arts, and two larger sports halls where you can play, for instance, badminton or volleyball. The sports halls are located on campus, so you do not have to spend time or money moving from one place to another. On LUT’s Lahti campus, in turn, you can play team sports, such as floorball, futsal or rugby. LUT also has many student-run sports clubs that are happy to bring in new students!
On both campuses, you can also attend group fitness classes organized by MOVEO. MOVEO is an organization which provides high quality and affordable sports services for students in Lahti and Lappeenranta. MOVEO also takes care of reservations and student memberships to the gym, group fitness and other indoor sports activities which we will introduce in this blog.
And as mentioned before, the prices for all sport activities provided by MOVEO are very affordable for students:
- Gym & team sports € 25/semester
- Group fitness, gym & team sports € 50/semester
Outdoor sports
Although some people might think that the weather in Finland is cold and unfavourable compared to other European countries, it doesn’t mean that there is nothing to do outside. In autumn and spring, the average outdoor temperature is almost 16 degrees, and if the sun is shining, the temperature is usually around 20 degrees. The weather is perfect, for instance, for playing padel or basketball on our new outdoor courts in Lappeenranta. You can also take advantage of the outdoor gyms on campus or take a walk in beautiful Finnish nature.
Moreover, in winter, both cities maintain skiing routes, and if you want to be even more experimental, you can try ice fishing on the lake! The best thing is that almost all of our outdoor activities are free of charge for students (excluding padel, which is € 5/hour).
Hey,
I’m a staff at LUT Lappeenranta campus. Can I use the gym facilities and what steps must I take to access them. Also, may I know if the facilities are always opened and from what times.
Thank you.
Hello! LUT staff has an access to LUT gym facilities with the magnetic key.
