There is an orientation week for those who just recently came to study to LUT and it is full of events – parties and adventures. This event is organized by the LUT School of Business (simply LBM), the unit I graduated as a Master and now enrolled as a PhD student. It is academic because it involves many of people who work in LBM – professors, researchers, PhD students and it is organized for newcomers.

It is nowadays a tradition to brings freshmen to a kind of flow-park (in recent years to Ahtisaari, a place far from the student campus but still in Lappeenranta’s area). The event is an important tradition during the freshmen’s week (“fuksiviikko”) and the purpose is build teams between students and the university staff. The success of the event creates important conditions for the entire period of study in Skinnarila campus as students get access to staff and create positive relationships with them.

This event takes the whole day and the staff of our school of business usually volunteers in organizing and preparing the event. This is a really great tradition because it reduces the psychological and power distance between students and the faculty staff which is beneficial both for the staff and students.
